If you’re the type of photographer who pixel-peeps and demands ultimate sharpness corner-to-corner, this may not be the lens for you. How I plan to use the lens in my personal photography

When shooting professionally technical abilities matter and I use the best I can afford to get sharp images and satisfy my clients. That's not to say you need to spend a ton of money but you do need the right tools for the job. However, when I'm shooting personally my goals are different.

My primary goal is to document life, capture moments, and put my own artistic eye on the scene. Technical brilliance does not matter as much. The limitations of the Viltrox 28mm f4.5 can also be its strengths.

My personal tips for using this lens are:

• In low light embrace high ISOs. The ISO performance for Fujifilm cameras have always been pretty good.

• Use flash for the party vibe is you want to limit your ISO.

• Use the back button focus method as an alternative to manual zone focus.

2/26/2025 - As of the time of writing this blog my XT10 was only partly compatible as per the Viltrox website. All photos are unedited and straight out of camera JPGS. The main idea was to push the limits of the lens using challenging light scenarios, highlighting was bokeh can look like, contrast, and sharpness.

Since an aperture of f4.5 is one of the biggest limitations of this lens so I did my best to challenge it indoors where higher ISOs would be used. The ISO range indoors was a low as 800 with flash and up to 6400 with no flash used. Most times I locked my shutter speed at 1/125 to get sharp images and avoid camera shake.

In contrast to my indoor photos I wanted to see how it performed outdoors in good lighting conditions. I set my ISO on auto with a limit of 800, so every shot is 800 or below. Most were 200 or 400. Shutter speed was on Auto.
